Free Credit Report

Since June 1, 2005, Federal law has allowed residents of Tennessee and 10 other Southern states to get a copy of your credit report for free.   While the credit report itself is free, the law doesn't grant consumers free access to their credit score, an important numerical measurement used by lenders and others to assess a consumer's creditworthiness.  That costs a fee of $5 to $10, depending on the reporting agency that's used and may not be the same score a mortgage professional will get when looking at your credit.

You can get your report on-line by clicking on this link: http://www.annualcreditreport.com or copy and paste this link into you internet browser: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

You'll be asked to provide some information so the credit bureaus can protect your identity.

You should check you credit three time a year by checking one bureau every four months.

Free credit reports also can be ordered by phone or mail.
